Ethereum fixes potential Glamsterdam validator deposit flaw

Rockstar Briefing · October 27, 2026 · Crypto · English edition

What happened

Ethereum developers merged a correction to the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade specifications on October 26. Under certain conditions, a proposed deposit-processing rule could have credited ETH intended for a new validator to a block builder using the same public key. No mainnet exploit or losses have been reported.

Why it matters

Validators secure Ethereum by staking ETH. Misallocated deposits could expose staking providers to operational and financial risk. Catching this issue before mainnet deployment illustrates the importance of protocol reviews, although client implementation and testing remain outstanding.

What comes next

Client teams must implement and test the revised deposit rules. The Hoodi testnet activation was postponed, and no confirmed mainnet date has been announced. The fix does not by itself establish a direction for ETH prices.
