What happened

On October 30, 2026, Mexico’s Finance Ministry reported that tax revenue rose 0.7% in real terms year over year in January–September. Value-added tax receipts rose 12%, while income tax receipts fell 5.3% in real terms.

The historical balance of public sector borrowing requirements, a broad debt measure, stood at 52.6% of GDP. The ministry also said the budget deficit was 244 billion pesos below its target.

Why it matters

Revenue, spending and debt influence the resources available for public services and investment, as well as assessments of public finances.

Rockstar Briefing analysis

Tax revenue growth does not by itself describe all public income. A better-than-budgeted balance should be assessed alongside spending, debt servicing costs and the path of debt in future reports.
