Euro area inflation rises to 4.0% in October

November 4, 2026. Annual euro area inflation reached 4.0% in October, up from 3.8% in September, according to Eurostat’s flash estimate. Energy prices rose 20.8% from a year earlier, compared with 18.9% in September.

Services rose 3.3%, and food, alcohol and tobacco increased 1.6%. The measure excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco remained at 2.5%. These figures are preliminary and may be revised.

Why it matters

Higher energy prices put pressure on households and business costs and complicate monetary authorities’ assessment of inflation.

Rockstar Briefing analysis

The stable measure excluding energy and food suggests that the rise in headline inflation is not uniform across prices. The key question is whether energy costs pass through to services and goods in coming months; this data point alone does not determine interest-rate decisions.
